What to do for Valentine’s Day in Raleigh

Ahhh…. the day of love.  Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  For some it is just a crazy holiday that was made up by the card companies.  For others, it is the day to show your true love how special they are to you.  If you are trying to figure out how you are going to spend it, here is a few ideas….

When I think of love, I think of food.  If you are thinking a nice dinner out with your Valentine is the way to go here are my Top 3 recommendations, but I would not recommend procrastinating on getting reservations.

Oak Steakhouse - Located in the Warehouse District.  It is beautifully designed, and this is one of the best meals I have had in Raleigh.  It comes with a pricey ticket, but so worth it!

Jolie – One of Scott Crawford’s tasty spots on Person Street.  It is small and difficult to get reservations.  Here is a little secret…they have a rooftop area that is first come, first serve though.  It is tented and has heaters so don’t let the weather deter you from checking the space out.   Y’all, get the fondue.  Trust me!

Rosewater Kitchen & Bar – This beautiful space is located in North Hills where Bruegger’s Bagels was.  IT. IS. BEAUTIFUL.  The menu is delicious as well.  You can get adventurous and hit a movie before or after for the full date night experience!

Maybe you are more about an activity or event.  These may be more your style.

Drive Shack -  If you haven’t been yet, you must put it on your list of places to go.  Fun for everyone.  My son loves this place!   I will warn you that there are no reservations and the wait can go up to a few hours.  They do have a restaurant and some arcade games to help you get through the long wait.  Golfers and non-golfers will both have a blast.

Let’s Roam – This is probably better suited for a Saturday or Sunday date, unless you don’t have to work on Friday.  It’s a scavenger hunt through the city of your choice.  I have recently done this with some friends and learned so much about downtown Raleigh.  Pop in to one of the many restaurants or watering holes along the way or at the end.

Carolina Hurricane’s – Lucky for all of us there is a home game on Valentine’s day.  Throw on your red and cheer on those Bunch of Jerks for a win!

Valentine’s Day does fall on a Friday this year.  Maybe you would like to plan a little getaway.  Here are two VRBO’s that I highly recommend

Little Mountain House

Rocky Mount getaway

If your sweetheart is an animal lover try these

Spend some time with the puppies and kittens at the Wake County SPCA.  Watch out, you may end up with an extra member of the family.

Tucked away in Pittsboro is The Tiger Preserve. Their mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild.  They offer tours to see these amazing creatures.
